Today…March 6 Remember the Alamo
March 6–On this day in 1836, the Alamo fell to the Mexican Army. The dictator Santa Anna ordered all the Tajanos and Texans killed. Houston’s men weren’t ready for the battle. They continued to train until April when the Texas army surrounded Santa Anna’s army at San Jacinto, crying, “Remember the Alamo.” Although he tried to run away, Santa Anna was captured. He agreed to all of Houston’s demands in exchange for his life. Tejano or Texano (Spanish for “Texan”) is a term used to identify a Texan of Criollo Spanish or Mexican heritage. About every third or fourth man in the Texas Army was a Tajano. As we celebrate Texas Independence and freedom from tyranny, plan to attend the delayed celebration March 21 and 22 in Granbury. Parade begins at 10 am followed by a special program which includes the reading of Travis’s letter.
