AWARDS CEREMONY will be held at Acton United Methodist Church on Friday, February 21st, 6:30 pm. All entries are open to view and vote for People’s Choice Award from 5:30-6:15 pm on 2/21/20.

All Entries MUST be picked up at the end of the awards presentation at 6:30 pm on February 21, 2020, at Acton United Methodist Church. All entries not picked up will be discarded.

Rules For Entry

ALL CATEGORIES:

  • Complete Entry Form For Each Entry: http://bit.do/2020SHF (case sensitive)
  • Must relate to 2020 Student History Fair theme

Research Paper:

  • Must work alone
  • Must be original, factual and historically based
  • Must be typed and double-spaced
  • Word count: less than 1,000 words, provided on cover sheet
  • Must provide a list of sources
  • Submitted electronically (PDF only) or mail by 2/1/20

Creative Writing Paper:

  • Must work alone
  • Must be original, factual and historically based.
  • Must be typed and double-spaced
  • Word count: less than 1,000 words, provided on cover
  • Must provide a list of sources
  • Submitted electronically (PDF only) or mail by 2/1/20

Exhibits:

  • Work alone or in a group (5 people or less)
  • Exhibit size – no larger than 40” wide, 30” deep, and 6’ high.
  • Include any combination of photos, research paper, artwork, 3-D models, etc.
  • Submitted in-person 2/16/20 3-5 pm or 2/17/20 5-7 pm

Artwork:

  • Work alone or in a group (5 people or less)
  • Entries can include any painting/print style, sculpture, photography, or any other art form.
  • Must be mounted to hang or stable enough to display
  • Submitted in-person 2/16/20 3-5 pm or 2/17/20 5-7 pm

Videos/PowerPoint:

  • Work alone or in a group (5 people or less)
  • Must be 10 minutes or less
  • Submitted electronically (Google Slides, .ppt, .wmv, .mov, or .vpb only) by 2/1/20

Performing Arts:

  • Work alone or in a group
  • May include ballads, scenes, duets, solo, choirs
  • Must be 10 minutes or less
  • Performed in-person 2/16/20 3-5 pm or 2/17/20 5-7 pm by appointment

Criteria for Judging

  1. Historical Content & Accuracy
  2. Relates to 2020 Theme: “Breaking Barriers in Texas History Prior to 1900”
  3. Organized Structure and Clearly Stated
  4. Creativity and uniqueness of the subject matter
  5. Demonstrates abundant research
  6. Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling (if applicable)

Any students in the North Texas Hood County area may enter. Schools that host their own history fair are encouraged to enter their top entries.
